We received Pre-Approval!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally - we received Pre-Approval from the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala! This means we can now enter PGN! Another BIG step closer to bringing Edison home...

The official adoption office is the PGN in Guatemala. PGN stands for Procuradoria General de la Nacion. Procuradoria is a Spanish term that is used in Central America. The PGN in Guatemala is made up of lawyers, judges, counselors and administrators. The Procurador is the person who manage and administers laws on behalf of people adopting through the PGN in Guatemala.

The PGN receives all the paperwork we prepared months ago. Someone in PGN will review our paperwork and analyze it against Guatemala's adoption requirements. They issue referrals as quickly as 4 weeks and often stretch the waiting period to 12 weeks. Let's pray for a quick turnaround!!!

Once the PGN approves our documents, we will gain legal responsibility for Edison. A new birth certificate will be issued in Guatemala listing Paul and I as his adoptive parents. This will allow our attorney in Guatemala to obtain a Guatemalan passport for him.

Once all of this is complete, our paperwork will go back to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service and the Department for Homeland Security. They will be responsible for issuing Edison's immigrant visa to come to the U.S.

The next big thing we wait for is "Getting out of PGN". After that - you will probably hear me scream across this great Commonwealth when we receive our "pink slip". A "pink slip" in a Guatemalan adoption case is a good thing. That means everything is final and we can go bring Edison home!

We've been waiting how long ? ? ?

From the day we filled out our application for adoption (9/11/2007) to the day we picked up Edison's visa to come to the United States (9/11/2008) took exactly one year! Of my three pregnancies - this paper pregnancy was the longest and most stressful. Lilypie Waiting to adopt Ticker
